Country Style Donuts, FTW!

There is a little place in the East End of Richmond known as Country Style Donuts. In this haven of baby blue formica and chrome, one can find the most decadent, delicious, and utterly debaucherous vegan donuts known to man!

This is one of those happy accidents where the recipe just doesn't call for any sort of dairy products. Of course, stay clear of cream filled varieties, but all in all, vegan. I think I heard Vegan squeeing all over our fair city!

Glazed, powdered, and maple oh my!

So, in closing, GOOD MORNING TO ME (and my co-workers)!!!

  1. Are you positive these are vegan? I've heard otherwise. One source of mine said they heard from someone who works there that they used to think there recipe was vegan but found out it wasn't or something along those lines.

I was real excited when I read this post. And I've been thinking about it for the last week, but after talking to some people I'm not so sure, and I don't want to drive out to the east end to just be disappointed. So how certain are you that these are vegan? Thanks for your blog!

  2. I just called to confirm with the owner. He says they use all veggie ingredients, no milk, eggs or butter in these suckers! So enjoy and eat freely!

    Thanks so much for asking!

    1. I contacted them just now and was told they do use milk and egg products in their donuts.

  3. Been researching this a bit more. Apparently (and this is hearsay), Lamplighter used to sell them as 'vegan' but read the ingredients themselves and decided they weren't vegan and felt bad about previously selling them as such. But this was a year ago, so maybe their recipe has changed (doesn't seem likely). I think I won't be satisfied either way until I go there in person, talk to them, and see the ingredients list, if it does exist. Have another friend saying they read the ingredients list personally and they are 'definitely not vegan'.

I appreciate you taking the time to call, and your fast reply! And I'm sorry I'm not convinced fully yet (some people may not know everything that is or isn't 'vegan', and I guess something lacking eggs and dairy could still not be vegan.) Also someone else said that the owner may have also said something like "how do you make donuts without eggs?" at another time. Which is a good question, even if the attribution isn't correct...

  4. this is news to me as well... i have friends who are obsessed with that place who have told me the donuts are definitely not vegan. i only went there with them once cuz nothing says "fun" like sitting in a donut shop, surrounded by delicious donut aroma, unable to eat a single donut.

    1. You should make a complaint to them about NOT carrying Vegan donuts...I make the best vegan donuts at home and they are superior to the cruelty ones. Vegans here in Richmond need to speak up!
